Harold Iutzi

Harold Iutzi, 89, of Harrison passed away quietly on Friday, Aug. 29, 2025 at Coleman Fields Assisted Living of Coleman, Michigan. Harold was born Dec. 4, 1935 in rural Hamilton Township, Clare County, Michigan, the son of Rolla and Flossie (Townsend) Iutzi. Harold graduated from Harrison Agricultural School in 1954. Harold lived in Harrison since 1966.

Harold was the youngest in a family of five children.

He worked on his family’s farm during and after high school, and briefly worked for a pipeline company in southern Ohio. Harold was united in marriage to Ethel Jean Reid on July 14, 1957 in Lansing, Michigan. He entered the US Air Force in September 1958 and served eight years. He had assignments as a Boiler Plant Operator at Fort Custer in Battle Creek, Michigan, Forbes AFB in Kansas, Thule Air Station in Greenland, and Bunker Hill AFB, Indiana.

Harold lived most of his life within sight of the house he grew up in. He was fond of calling his home, “the best location in the nation”. He worked many years with Mathews Forestry cutting pulp wood and holding down a variety of second jobs faithfully providing for his family.

These included television and household appliance repair along with nighttime work at Peter’s Crate Works near Dodge City.

Later he worked at Woods Household in Clare, MI.

After that, he spent 30 plus years running the plumbing and electrical department at Ace Hardware in Gladwin, MI. He thoroughly enjoyed playing pranks on customers and coworkers alike. If any Gladwin Ace customers wondered where those random nails and pieces of dog food came from, now you know.

Harold was exceptionally devoted to his wife Jean, taking on the difficult task of full-time care giver for many years.

Harold is survived by one son, Keven Iutzi and fiancé Jane Brown of Rock, Michigan; one granddaughter, Rebecka and husband Chris Simmons of Grain Valley, Missouri; five sisters-in-law: Virginia (Reid) Thompson of Florida, Marlene (Reid) Baggett of Crawfordville, Florida; Judy Mathews and Bryan of Freeland, Michigan; Marsha Burgess and husband Jim of Harrison; and Darla (Reid) Fox and friend Larry, of Harrison; one brother-in law, Marlin Reid of Florida; plus many nieces, nephews and extended family members of both the Iutzi and Reid families. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Bernard Iutzi; and his sisters: Julia Huber, Violet Price, and Annabelle Mathews.
