GRATIOT COUNTY – On Monday, Dec. 30, another young life was cut short when a Gladwin County man tragically died in a two car accident on US-127 in Gratiot County.
Zachary Morgan, 26, of Gladwin, was driving northbound when a vehicle driven by Timothy LaPoint, 20, of Ypsilanti, crossed into the opposite lane, colliding with Morgan’s vehicle. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.
Gratiot County Sheriff Mike Morris said in a release that deputies responded to the scene on northbound US-127, north of State Rd. at about 10:46 a.m.
The report said that speed is believed to be a factor in the car driven by LaPointe. Both men were wearing seatbelts. Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be a factor. The investigation remains open.
The report states that deputies were assisted at the scene by the Alma District Fire Department, St. Louis Area Fire Department, MMR and the Michigan State Police Accident Investigation Team.
