GLADWIN – The Gladwin Fire Department was dispatched Friday, April 2 at 5:30 a.m. to 35 N Hawkins Rd. for a structure fire. The building, part of a complex known as Supreme Auto was heavily involved when it was discovered. Responding firefighters were on scene for about six hours.
The structure was occupied by the owner who was asleep in an upstairs apartment and escaped uninjured. Firefighters were able to stop the fire at a separation wall but the building and contents are considered a total loss. The approximate 6,400 square-foot building was used for vehicle repairs and rebuilds and had several vehicles and equipment inside.
The cause of the fire is considered accidental and will be investigated by the State Fire Marshal. There were no injuries reported from the fire. According to Gladwin Fire, there is insurance on the building and its contents. Automatic mutual aid was provided by surrounding departments.
