t 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17, the Gladwin Rural Urban Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 2885 Wirtz Rd., in Gladwin Township. No one was home at the time the fire was discovered, consequently, the fire in the two story residence was well advanced when it was discovered.

Butman, Harrison and Secord townships sent water tankers and firefighters to assist. The Gladwin County Sheriff’s Office aided with traffic control to keep the scene safer for vehicles. According to Assistant Gladwin Fire Chief, Greg Alward preliminary cause for the fire points to combustibles being too close to a wood burning heating system. 

As a result, fire and water damage to the home was extensive. Firefighters were on scene for about four hours. The family is currently being cared for by neighbors.
