Myers for Tires

GLADWIN – Myers for Tires, an automotive service and parts business in Gladwin will be celebrating it’s 90 years of service on Monday, August 3.

Starting on Monday and going through Saturday, August 8, Myers for Tires will be holding daily drawings for shoppers including prizes such as large smart TVs. The original intent for the celebration was much bigger according to store owner, Joe Myers.

“We originally planned to have food provided and a couple of race cars to show off,” Joe said.

Due to the state-wide order, the celebration event will be “dialed down.”

This family business was originally founded in 1930 by Dr. Floyd Myers, a veterinarian who also served as the Gladwin County Sheriff for a time. Originally, the store began as mainly a gas station with some light mechanical service work available as well. Floyd’s son, Ralph took over the business in the 1940s. Under Ralph’s ownership, the business expanded in it’s original location.

In 1979, Ralph’s son, Joe took over ownership of the store and changed the location of the business to where it currently stands at 801 E. Cedar Ave. in Gladwin. The store currently employs 20 people throughout its service, parts, and retail departments. Joe also stopped selling gasoline from the store in the early 2000s, which made way for the business’ transition into the parts and service center it is today. Joe is involved in many civic groups and efforts such as the Downtown Development Association, Gladwin County Sports Complex, and the Community Board of Directors of Chemical Bank. His son Ralph joined the business as the Tire Department Manager in the later 2000s.

According to the Myers for Tires website, the business focuses heavily on customer service and has done so for it’s 90 years of operation. Joe spoke about the focus on customer service and the business’ customer loyalty through the years.

“We try to thank our customers for supporting all of these people for all of these years,” Joe said. “We’ve had families from multiple generations come to us, and it’s nice; we appreciate that. We are very fortunate.”

Myers for Tires is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 6:30 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. They offer automotive parts and extensive service as well as “anything and everything to do with tires” according to Joe.
