The Gladwin County Chamber of Commerce is hosting it’s second annual “Dicken’s Downtown” event. This event will be taking place in downtown Gladwin beginning on Saturday, Dec. 18 at 4:30 p.m. and continuing every night through Thursday, Dec. 23 at the same time.
For the event, lanterns will be hung on lamp posts throughout the downtown area on Cedar Ave. The group of participants will follow a lamplighter starting at the corner by the Central Michigan District Health Department building, and working along the north side of the street toward the historic village.
The group will then cross at the Hall-Kokotovitch Funeral Home and come back to the west, covering the south side.Carolers will join in as they light lamps and the spirit of Christmas on main street.
Those who are interested in either caroling or walking with the group, whether it be part of the way or the entire route, can plan on meeting at the health department building just before the event begins. Please contact the chamber for more information or to let them know if you would like to be one of the lamplighters. The event is currently being planned, so details such as a possible bonfire gathering will be included in future editions of the Record & Clarion and on the chamber’s Facebook page.
Parking at either the CMDHD building parking lot or the courthouse parking lot is encouraged in order to keep the downtown area less crowded. It is important to bundle up the family and dress warm before heading out to the event to sing Christmas carols and spread the joy. Social distancing and placement along the route is also encouraged for those hoping to watch or shop.
The Gladwin County Chamber is always looking for creative ways to support the local businesses and to spread community spirit. They wish everyone happy holidays and they hope to see you for the second annual Dicken’s Downtown, Dec. 18-23 at 4:30 p.m.
