GLADWIN COUNTY – On Tuesday, February 2, Andreas Teich along with the Rotary 6310’s District Governor, Randy Ettema presented to the Gladwin Rotary Club on international water projects. Since 2010, Rotary District 6310 has provided financial support for ten water, sanitation and hygiene projects in the Dominican Republic.
Rotarians in the Dominican Republic initiate the projects so that rotarians are certain that the projects are needed. In that decade, the projects have provided water collection systems, latrines for homes and toilets for schools, hand washing stations in schools and communities and training on proper handwashing and hygiene. Nearly 25 communities, their schools and the families who live there benefitted from these projects. The impact amazed the rotarians and delighted the recipients.
Two years ago, planning began to address a much larger group of individuals in one fell swoop. Working with World Vision, Rotary District 6310 and their Dominican partner, Rotary District 4060 plan to impact four states in the Dominican Republic by providing clean water and enhanced educational opportunities for the children. In total, the projects will cost $800,000.
Andreas concluded the meeting by answering questions from rotarians and guests in attendance. Wish you were at this meeting to hear directly from Andreas and Randy and ask them questions? Join the Gladwin Rotary Club at a meeting to see if Rotary is for you! The group normally meets on Tuesdays at noon at Riverwalk Grill in Gladwin, however, through the shutdown, they are meeting via Zoom. The rotary motto is “service above self,” so if that’s you and if you are interested in learning more about Gladwin Rotary, please contact Karen Moore, President at RotaryMoore@gmail.com or Joyce Swartzmiller, Membership Chairperson, at 989-435-7122. The club would be happy to have you join their Zoom meetings until they can meet again in person.
