Parades and ceremonies took place in both Gladwin and Beaverton on Monday. In Gladwin, the parade stepped off just after 10:30 in the morning. For Beaverton, the parade rolled through town starting at 1:30 p.m.
In Gladwin, a Memorial Day Program was held in front of the veteran’s memorial on the courthouse lawn. A large group gathered around the memorial to listen to speakers honor those who have served and the lives that were lost. A 21 gun salute took place by members of the American Legion, with an extra gun being fired in honor of all the POWs and those still missing in action. Taps was played by Kaitlynn Levine of Gladwin High School.
The Beaverton program took place at the veteran’s memorial in Ross Lake Park with a large group gathered to watch. Members of the American Legion performed another 21 gun salute, with the extra gun being fired, and taps was once again played by Kaitlynn. A memorial bench was also dedicated in remembrance of VFW Post 7303.
Audiences at both events were respectful and many gave thanks for the honorable ceremonies held by both Gladwin and Beaverton.
