BAY CITY – The Bay City Ice Arena is hosting a free sled hockey event. The event will be held Feb. 2 at noon at the Ice Arena and welcomes all children ages 4-17. Sled hockey is similar to traditional ice hockey, sled hockey uses pucks, sticks, and nets on an ice surface. The sport involves the use of an adapted sled that propels through the use of sticks in a motion similar to Cross Country skiing. Because of this, players who have limited or no use of their legs are able to fully participate. For younger players or those with limited use of upper body, a pusher (able-bodied skater with hockey knowledge) teams with the player to assist in propelling them around the ice. Pre-registration is required in order to acquire appropriate sized sleds and gear. To pre-register, email your players name, date of birth, and any other information that may help make your child’s sled hockey experience great.
