UNIVERSITY CENTER – Delta College is joining community colleges across the state to support a new scholarship program that will help address a widening skills gap within the state’s workforce.
The Michigan Reconnect scholarship program will help pay for tuition costs for eligible adults who want to pursue an associate’s degree, technical degree or certificate. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced the new program on February 2.
“This program will not only give individuals encouragement and a boost to pursue their career dreams, but it will also help build a strong economy that requires a talented workforce,” said Russell Curley, dean of Enrollment Management. “Delta prides itself on working with area employers and addressing their needs, so our graduates are well prepared and have the training necessary for fulfilling careers.”
The scholarship, which pays in-district rates, is available for current and future Delta students. It is designed for residents who are 25 years or older, have a high school diploma, have not yet completed a college degree, and have lived in Michigan for at least one year.
Michigan employers’ ability to find highly skilled employees is more difficult than ever and is cited as a top concern in a recent Michigan Future Business Index Report. Michigan Reconnect will help address the dual challenges of the state’s widening talent gap and aging workforce.
