GLADWIN – A car accident caused a power outage for large parts of the city of Gladwin on Friday, June 14. Crews responded to the scene and power was restored within four hours.
The accident occurred on M-61 in front of Chemical Bank when a pickup truck crashed into the back of a Ford Focus that was preparing to turn south onto Buckeye St. The truck then jumped the curb, snapped the utility pole guide wire, hit a tree, finally coming to a stop after striking a Chevy Traverse. The driver was cited for careless driving.
The owner of the Traverse was standing outside of the vehicle at the time of the accident with a two-year-old child. The individual ran away with the child to avoid the accident. Police reports indicate that the individual was pregnant and fell during the accident. She did not require an ambulance but indicated she would see her doctor.
No one was seriously injured during the accident.
The power outage was due to the top of the utility pole snapping off, and parts falling into a nearby tree as a result of the accident. The wires fell down on top of a vehicle in the parking lot, causeing damage to the paint. A large portion of the city lost power.
