BEAVERTON – A new polished concrete podium powered up and rigged for audio on Memorial Day in front of “The Survivor” WW1 monument in Beaverton’s Ross Lake Park last week offered speakers a place to address participants honoring those who gave all in our country’s wars.

It was designed and constructed by Midland concrete artist, Erick Forshee over the past winter with funding for materials by a state grant and was installed just two weeks ago.

Two plaques are attached, one listing the names of those from Gladwin County who lost their lives in service during WW1, and the other offering brief history of “The Survivor’s” restoration last year.
