HAY TOWNSHIP –
37-year-old Christina Kay Herren was shot and killed on Saturday, Oct. 19 in Hay Township, following an alleged domestic dispute with her husband, 39-year-old Jeremy Herren. He was taken into custody by the Michigan State Police on Oct. 19, and was arraigned on Monday, Oct. 21. Herren is charged with homicide open murder statutory short form and felony firearm. He is currently in the Gladwin County Jail and has been denied bond.
According to police reports at approximately 4:07 a.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police West Branch Post were dispatched to the 1500 block of E. Long Point Road in Gladwin County’s Hay Township for a domestic dispute with shots fired.
The couple’s three children, all under the age of 14, were in the home when they heard their mother and father arguing and then gunshots. The children fled to a neighbor’s house where 911 was called.
Upon arrival the of troopers say the suspect refused to come out of the house. The state police emergency support team was activated and responded to the scene. The suspect came out of the house and surrendered to law enforcement around 9:30 a.m.
State Police immediately secured the home and located Christina deceased inside the home with an apparent gunshot wound.
Herren is set for a probable cause hearing at 9 a.m. Nov. 4 and a preliminary exam at 9 a.m. Nov. 12.
Beaverton Rural Schools, where the children attend, reportedly had grief counselors in the schools on Monday.
This case remains under investigation.
State Police were assisted on scene by many of their local law enforcement partners.
