The Gladwin County Board of Commissioners met for a regularly scheduled meeting yesterday, May 9. During the meeting, commissioners heard from some of the local non-profits as well as the President of the Four Lakes Task Force.

GHS Plant Sale May 13

GLADWIN
Gladwin High School will have its Plant Sale on Saturday, May 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The sale will specialize in native perennial wildflowers and heirloom vegetables. Hanging baskets and bedding plants will also be offered.

Loren McLaughlin and his friend John spent a couple nights and a day in Hanover, New Hampshire before they moved further into the state. While in town, they met up with a woman they had previously hiked with in Virginia.

Gladwin County 4-H members and their families got the opportunity to take a tour of Ebels Meat Processing on April 29. They learned all about how beef, sheep, swine, and even deer, were processed.

Iwas napping and noticed something was tickling my eyes. I couldn’t sleep and came downstairs to nap in my “Comfy Chair.” My eyes were bothering me, I slowly opened one eye, and the brightness was dazzling. I recognized it as the bright, beautiful sunlight.

The Little Forks Conservancy works to permanently protect and improve natural environments in mid-Michigan by leading and inspiring actions that conserve vital habitats and waterways for the benefit of our entire community. The Conservancy has helped private landowners protect almost 4,000 acres in Mid-Michigan, including over 23 miles of waterways and shoreline.

Volunteers will be back in the Cedar River this spring to determine the river’s water quality by looking at the macroinvertebrates living in the water. Little Forks Conservancy is seeking volunteers for this stream sampling day on Saturday, May 13, 2023.

Over 550 people attended the 20th annual A Northern Tradition, Mid Michigan College’s annual fundraiser, which took place recently at Jay’s Sporting Goods in Clare. The event raised over $75,000 to support the College’s services to students and the community.

GJHS Science Olympiad students place at the state competition

Congratulations to the Gladwin Junior High Science Olympiad team who competed at the state competition on Saturday, April 22 at Michigan State University (MSU).
Students had been working on their events since January to prepare for their regional meet in March.

The Friends of the Gladwin County Libraries are bringing a new activity to supplement our spring book sale and bake sale. The book sale will begin on Wednesday, May 10 from 12-5 pm for members and those who pay $10 at the door. It will continue Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
