Put that saw down! Delay pruning oaks until mid-July
One of the symptoms of oak wilt is when green-andbrown leaves start falling from the top of the tree in late summer. To help prevent the spread of this fungal disease, don’t prune oak trees from April 15July 15, when risk of insectborne infection is highest.

If you have an oak tree, put your saw and your pruners down. Due to the possibility of beetles spreading oak wilt fungus from tree to tree, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources advises homeowners and landowners not to trim or prune any oak trees from April 15-July 15. The best time to prune oak trees is during the winter, when the trees are dormant.
