LOGAN LOVE GETS A HOLE-IN-ONE AT DEVIL’S KNOB

Logan Love of Beaverton had the first hole-in-one of the season – and his first hole-in-one – on May 5. He used his 9-iron and a Titleist ball to neatly place the ball in the number 8 hole. Number 8 is known as “The Knob” and is not an easy feat. This was his second time playing this course. He was golfing with his brother, Landon; and friends, Reese Longstreth and Will Warner. Logan is finishing his freshmen year at Central Michigan University. His hole-in-one has provided and eventful year. Be sure to congratulate him when you see him.

Beaverton baseball team swept, then sweeps in JPC twinbills

PINCONNING The games were vastly different when the Beaverton Baseball team was in Pinconning for a doubleheader last Tuesday, but the same team won both. The Spartans pulled out a tough 2-1 victory in the opener and then won a wild 12-9 affair in the nightcap.

Gladwin boys run to JPC dual meet title

SHEPHERD The dual meets are done in the Jack Pine Conference and the Gladwin boys’ track team sits alone atop the standings with a 7-0 record. The Flying G’s finished the job last Wednesday by knocking off host Shepherd 93-70 and Beaverton 136-22.

GJHS GIRLS TRACK COMPETED AT ALMA COLLEGE

Gladwin Junior High School Girls Track Team traveled to Alma College on April 26 to compete in the MS Panther Track Classic. Scoring points for the Flying G’s were: Olivia Evans, Long jump, first with a jump of 14’ 3.50”; Arliena Grant, third in the Pole Vault, 7’ 9.00”; Liliana Gutierrez, in the 1600 meter run, sixth with a time of 6:07.01; and the Distance Medal Relay team (4000 meters) of, Liliana Gutierrez, Arliena Grant, Breanna Aalderink, and Olivia Evans, fourth, 15:42.45. Gladwin finished eighth out of 12 schools. It was a fun meet to run in consisting of mostly relays.

Gladwin wins softball pitchers’ duel on a passed ball

GLADWIN Atrue pitchers’ duel came down to one bad pitch Thursday when the Gladwin softball team nipped visiting Farwell 1-0 in the second game of a doubleheader. Tessa Cameron reached base in the top of the sixth inning on her second hit of the game, worked her way to third and scored the winning run on a passed ball.

GJHS Boys track compete in Meridian

GLADWIN The Gladwin Junior High Boys Track Team (GJHS) traveled to Meridian to compete in a conference meet on May 6. The boys did a great job overall! There were lots of personal bests and many individuals placing in the top 5.
