Ronald Lee Schmidt
Ronald Lee Schmidt, age 76, of Midland, Michigan, died on May 9, 2023, with family at his side. Ron was born on January 3, 1947, in Gladwin, Michigan; one of four children of Bruno and Alice (Raymond) Schmidt.
After graduating high school, Ron started working for The Dow Chemical Company in the mail room.
Later, he was drafted and joined the US Air Force.
From 1966 until 1970, Ron served proudly during the Vietnam War. He returned to Dow and finished his working career. In 1980, Ron devoted 21 years to the U.S. Army National Guard and again served proudly during Operation Desert Storm.
In his spare time, Ron loved to go bowling, fishing and play his guitar. He was a supporter of any Veterans activity and a very active member of the VFW in Midland. To show his support for other fallen Veterans, Ron was a member of the Midland Area Veterans Honor Team.
Ron is survived by his wife of 31 years, Jackie (Zurawic) Schmidt; his daughters, Bethany Crapo, Noel Schmidt, and Tanya Headd (Mike); his grandchildren, Nathan, Christopher, Andrew, Sebestian, Theodore, Eleanor, and Paul; his brothers, David Schmidt and Jim Schmidt; his sister, Patty Krall (Rick); and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruno and Alice Schmidt.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 19, 2023, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1501 N. Saginaw Road, Midland, MI 48640. Family will greet guests starting at 10 a.m. at the church.
Interment Midland City Cemetery.
