Patterson B. Alward

Patterson B. Alward

Patterson B. Alward (Piddy) entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on January 26, 2023 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

He was born April 27, 2001 in Saginaw, Michigan and moved to the greater Grand Rapids area as a toddler.

Piddy grew up a happy child and lived his life to the fullest. Quick witted, he could bring light to any room. He graduated from Forest Hills Eastern High School in 2019. As a high school student, he was a mentor in the Peer to Peer program, helping students with special needs. Taking French as a second language led him to an exchange program in Strasbourg, France.

Never without a lacrosse stick or a snowboard, he was active in sports throughout his short life.

His maternal grandfather introduced him to lacrosse at a young age, and he followed his older brothers into the sport. As Patterson grew in lacrosse, he specialized in face-offs and followed that passion to college. He entered college as a DI athlete for Stony Brook University, Long Island, NY.

After a coaching change, Patterson entered the transfer portal and played for Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Maryland.

After changes in NCAA rules, he decided to forego collegiate lacrosse, and entered the University of Alabama. During his tenure at Alabama he majored in Operations/Supply Chain Management in the Culverhouse College of Business.

Patterson was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, who offered their love and support during our difficult time in Alabama, with a service honoring his life.

Special thanks to Beta Theta Pi, his collegiate roommate Bryant Segars and his parents.

Patterson was known and loved by the many friends he had. He never met a stranger. From coast to coast, and across the seas, the outpouring of love has been overwhelming for our grateful family.

He is survived by his parents Bradley and Colleen (Lowry) Alward, his two older brothers, Dane and Ciaran, his paternal grandparents George and Polly Alward, and his maternal grandmother Sally Lowry. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Robert Lowry. Piddy is also survived by his aunts, uncles, cousins and multitudes of friends.

He is sadly missed by his sweet, loving girlfriend Abigail Pyrdum.

Celebration of Life will be held May 20, 2023 at Kent Country Club 1600 College Ave. NE in Grand Rapids, Michigan from 12-3 p.m. Pastor Mike Desotell, Trinity United Methodist Church, presiding.

Service at 12 p.m., with reception following, featuring light fare and beverages.

In lieu of flowers, memorials honoring Patterson may be made to the charity of one’s choice, or a list of suggested charities will be available at the service.
