Hugh Leroy Finney
Hugh Leroy Finney, age 74, of Skidway Lake, Michigan, passed away on Sept. 9, 2026, at Gladwin Nursing Home and Rehab Center. He was born on Jan. 15, 1952, in Clare, Michigan, the son of Lawrence Finney and Emma Luella Finney (Staley).
Hugh grew up in Beaverton and graduated from Beaverton High School in 1970. He carried the values of hard work, loyalty, and respect throughout his life, and those who knew him best will remember him as a man who was generous, selfless, and kind. He had a quiet strength and a gentle spirit that touched the lives of many.
For 24 years, Hugh worked at Homestead Tool in Coleman, Michigan, where he was known as a dependable and dedicated employee. He approached his work with care and consistency, and he took pride in doing his part well.
Hugh also found great joy in the simple comforts of life, especially in the companionship of animals. He loved animals dearly, including his beloved cats Boots, Morris, and Speedy.
He is survived by his son, Kenneth Finney; his sister, Joann Hoag; his brothers: Elton (Linda), Alvin (Cindy), Arthur, and Paul; and sister, Betty (Jacob) Wright.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Emma Luella Finney; brother-in-law, Thomas Hoag; sister-in-law, Ruth Finney; and friend, Marla Alcorn.
