Duane E. Chartier, age 91, of Gladwin, passed away following a brief illness on Sunday afternoon, June 25, 2023 at MyMichigan Medical Center in West Branch.
The son of the late Edward and Mary (Ignasinski) Chartier, he was born on January 2, 1932 in Fremont, MI and was raised in Saginaw.
Duane proudly served his country from 1949 to 1952 with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Saginaw Grey Iron Foundry after 25 years.
Along with his wife Mary, he moved to Secord Lake in 1990 where they enjoyed many wonderful years and made several friends. Duane enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing pool at the Eagles Club. He was a member of the Secord Lake F.O.E.
4121. He was a charming, gregarious and friendly man that will be dearly missed.
Duane was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary E. (Brunette) Chartier in 2016. He is survived by his sister, Darlene Terry; two daughters, Cindy Chartier and Cathy Shinevar; two stepchildren, Joseph (Andrea) Bonk and Julie Bonk; five granddaughters, Gina, Destiny, Kristen, Rachel and Kayla; a grandson, Keenan Bonk; four great grandchildren, Destiny, Alexis, Timothy and Pyper. In addition to his wife and parents, Duane was also preceded in death by his son, Vince Chartier.
The funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Trahan Funeral Chapel.
Mr. EJ Brown will officiate, and Military Honors will be conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council.
Private interment will be at St. Patick Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Secord Lake F.O.E. 4121 or the donor’s favorite charity.
