GLADWIN
AVeterans Day ceremony is set to take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 11, at the Gladwin County Courthouse near the Veterans Memorial. The community is invited to attend this program to honor and show appreciation of wartime and peacetime veterans.
Veterans Day was declared a public holiday in 1919, on the one-year anniversary of the end of World War I, on November 11. During WWI, in the 11th month, on the 11th day, and the 11th hour, in 1918, all guns ceased, ending what was considered at the time the “War to End All Wars.” However, history has dictated otherwise. Therefore, Veterans Day ceremonies are always held on November 11 at 11 a.m.
Your presence at this ceremony is your opportunity to thank veterans for their willingness to serve, their love of country, their patriotism and their sacrifice for the common good. Should you attend the ceremony, it is asked that you do so respectfully and peacefully.
