It was just over 50 years ago that Beaverton’s Pierce Hotel – later called the Muscle Shoals Hotel – was introduced to a wrecking ball. The hotel had been built, along with many of the brick buildings on Brown Street, in the 1912-1914 time period.

GLADWINThe 12th Annual Cedar River Cleanup will take place on Friday, August 8, 10 a.m., at Gladwin City Park, 240 City Park St.Help keep the waterways clean by removing trash and other debris from the Cedar River in Gladwin. Volunteers will paddle about six miles of river, totaling about 3.

Every Tuesday at 1 p.m., at the Gladwin Church of Christ at 425 Grout Street, a group of ladies meet to make Love Bears, and Pillows for MyMichigan of Midland to be hugged by surgical patients. It’s a time of fun and laughter creating Love Bears and Pillows.
