Wandering with the Birds

Most people are naturally drawn to the colorful birds: Scarlet Tanagers, Indigo Buntings, Eastern Bluebirds, Northern Cardinals, and so on. And there is no denying their beauty. But personally, I’ll take the personality and charisma of two of our less vibrant birds: crows and ravens.

DEAR PAW’S CORNER: When should I get my purebred puppy spayed? “Macy” is a rambunctious, 6-monthold Bernese, and I’m getting conflicting information from friends and my vet. My friends say that she should go through one or two heat cycles before I get her fixed. The vet wants it done right away.

Recently I was talking with a lady who had been caring for her handicapped child for many years. While she obviously loves her daughter, she has begun showing symptoms of anxiety and depression. She is finding herself not sleeping well, becoming forgetful, on edge, and at times panicky.
