GLADWINJust like you, the Gladwin County District Library (GCDL) is ready for summer to begin. They like to spend the summer doing what they love most, having fun and reading as much as they can!

Fifty-seven years ago, when I was a senior in high school and taking a government class, a new graduate from college teacher asked the class what each person’s goal was. As the various students shared their hopes and dreams for the future, it finally was my turn to share what my goal was.

Golf outing to benefit veterans

GLADWINThe Gladwin County Veterans’ Relief Fund Golf Outing will be held June 9 at Sugar Springs Golf Course.The annual event helps the Fund provide emergency help for Gladwin County veterans when they cannot get financial aid from other sources or programs.

Memorial Day – why the poppy?

Inever really thought about why the poppy was used to commemorate those who died in war until recently. I was learning about a poem called “In Flander’s Fields “ and learned quite a bit about using the poppy for this reason.It started with a Canadian Surgeon and soldier named Lt. Col. John McCrae.

Ilove nestling into my comfy chair after a stick-to-your-ribs breakfast consisting of a bacon egg and cheese omelet, toast with lots of real butter, and hot coffee. I began to succumb to the warm glow of satiation and comfort.
