HOWELL – The Gail Wildfong School of Dance team of approximately 60 dancers took to the stage in Howell, MI this April for the Encore Dance Competition of the Stars. Our local dancers competed against 21 different studios and hundreds of dancers from across Michigan, against some amazing talent and represented our small town amazingly well with various solos, duets and group dances in tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, modern, musical theater and contemporary styles. Here are the results of last competition:

Each dance was adjudicated and received a level based on their technique, musicality, timing, choreography and costuming. Dances that received platinum awards include: junior lyrical, junior modern, junior jazz, petite jazz, musical theater, senior lyrical, tap, senior modern, senior jazz, hip hop, and soloists Callie Mead (lyrical), Olivia Gutierrezz (contemporary), Madisyn Hamilton (contemporary), Lily McLaughlin (contemporary), Madisyn Wendling (hip hop), Nicole Pollock (contemporary), Shannon Graham (musical theater), Braelyn DeLisle (tap), and finally duets for Breanna Mead and Nicole Pollock (contemporary), Hanna Sisco and Lauren Anderson (contemporary), and Karley Fischer and Darby McKimmy (jazz).

Overall awards are not easy to come by, as dancers must compete against so many other talented dances. However, GWSD brought home several, including 1st overalls for; junior jazz, petite jazz, musical theater and Madisyn Wendling, 2nd overalls went to Karley and Darby and the tap team. 3rd overall was awarded to junior lyrical, senior modern, and senior jazz. 4th overall went to the hip hop team and Breanna and Nicole. 5th overall went to Shannon Graham. Other outstanding awards went to; musical theater, receiving the special judges “dream team” award and the highest group score in the entire competition for their age level and division, Gutierrez and Seiser were in the top 20 scores of their (very large) solo division, Pollock made it in the top ten for her solo, and Wendling received the top scoring solo/duo/trio for her age group and division for the entire weekend! Finally, Kaitlyn McGuire was the recipient of the “Discovery Spotlight Scholarship” where she will be attending an out of state professional opportunity for dance and modeling!

The studio is so proud of all the amazing dancers for another great competition weekend.
