GLADWIN – Gladwin Area Friends of the Theatre will hold auditions for their Fall Drama, It’s A Wonderful Life, A Live Radio Play. With a possible cast of five to 20 actors, this live radio play brings the beloved American holiday classic to the stage! Audiences will be able to close their eyes to “listen” to the broadcast or leave them wide open so as to not miss seeing how the Foley sound effects are created.
Actors will portray all 46 characters to unfold the story of George Bailey, as he considers ending his life one fateful Christmas Eve. Clarence is here (the angel who might get his wings), Mary, Violet, Tilly, Uncle Billy, Ernie and Burt, and old man Potter…plus many more characters you may recall. Direct from a 1940’s style radio station, complete with period microphones, sound effects, On-Air, and Applause signs, and costumes, you won’t want to miss this chance to be a part of something a little different.
Directed by Jacque Lott Mattes, there are roles for young people aged 14 to 100. If you don’t like memorizing lines, this is the perfect show for you as you will read your lines, as they did in original radio broadcasts, right from the pages you hold in your hands.
Auditions are Aug. 14 and 16 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Gladwin Community Building. You need not have anything prepared in advance, just come ready to read and have some different voices in mind to portray multiple characters. The show runs Oct. 5, and 6, with two performances on Oct. 7, a 2 p.m. matinee and an evening performance.
