GLADWIN COUNTY – Four years ago, the Gladwin County Council on Aging (CoA) had no idea how creating their own Christmas Program for seniors would be received by the community. The generosity and giving nature of the community blew them away this year.
The Council on Aging, Gladwin County, is beyond grateful for everyone who donated to their Christmas Comfort for Seniors program. This was their biggest year of gift-giving. This program was created in 2016 with the hopes of making homebound seniors feel comfort and cared about during the holiday season.
With all of the generous donations CoA received from the community, not only were they able to provide gifts to homebound seniors who receive home-delivered meals, but they had enough to create gift bags for all of the other seniors who utilize the in-home care services.
The home-delivered meal drivers delivered 180, hand packaged and wrapped, gifts to home-delivered meals and congregate meals clients.
Along with the boxed gifts, the drivers also delivered approximately 73 dog gift bags and 44 cat gift bags. These pet bags were donated and prepared by Karen Moore and her husband, Mike. Karen was a member of the Gladwin County Leadership group who provided CoA with the pet gift bags during last year’s Christmas Comfort for Seniors as a part of their leadership project.
New this year, thanks to so many generous donations, the group was also able to have their in-home care workers deliver 56 gift bags to their clients who receive only in-home services, such as homemaking, personal care and/or respite care.
The Gladwin County CoA would like to spread a heartfelt “thank you” to all who donated and a “thank you” for helping them spread cheer!
If you donated and did not leave your name and address, please send Gladwin County CoA a message with your address so that they may send you a thank you card.
A specific “thank you” goes out to DeShano Community Foundation, Nancy Giltrop, DeVita, Donna Gower, Karen Shea, Karen and Mike Moore, Lisa and Carmen Bragg, Pat Munger, Dick and Rebecca Campbell, Lori Stout, Luann Dennis, Christina Sharpsteen and the Boy and Girl Scout Troops of Gladwin County, Donna Alward, Mary Petersen, Dawn and Nick from 989 Real Estate and A Blade Above Lawn Care, Mid Michigan College, Susan Wallace, Sarah Kile, Stephanie Mulligan, and Sugar Springs Stitch Club, for their donations and to our hard working staff who assembled and delivered the gifts.
