BEAVERTON – The Beaverton Schools held a back to school supply drive on Friday, September 11 at the parking lot between the Beaverton Elementary School and the Jr./Sr. High School.
The drive was designed to support students and teachers in Beaverton by providing them with basic school supplies. There was a tent set up for people to visit and drop off their supplies. Each person who made a donation received a free pulled pork sandwich or hot dog meal.
Materials that were donated included notebooks, folders, pencils, highlighters, sticky notes, binders, backpacks, ear buds, cleaning wipes and Kleenex. These materials will go a long way in securing the 2020/2021 school year.
The supply drive took place before and during the Beaverton and Gladwin Varsity Volleyball game. A tribute to local law enforcement, fire departments and first responders was also done before the game. A lineup of police, fire and EMT vehicles paraded through the parking lots of the schools. As the vehicles paraded by the gymnasium where the game was held, the teams came out to show their support for their local first responders.
