Local artist, Lora Perkins, was born and raised in Michigan and has resided in the Gladwin area for most of her life. Her career as a sonographer led her to travel all over the United States but eventually returned to her hometown.
During her travels, her love of photography grew. Experimenting with all forms of art, photography took precedence for many years. She pursued her photography by taking several on-line courses and working with other photographers wherever her job took her. As a bonus to her travels, the radiology department at Whidbey General Hospital in Coupeville, Washington houses several of her works.
Upon returning home, Lora joined the Gladwin Area Artist Guild in 2015 as a photographer. Her artistic world has opened up to include painting with acrylics and a variety of painting mediums. Fluid art painting is the newest of her endeavors.
The Gladwin Area Artist Guild (GAAG) gives her the opportunities to learn from many other artists. She has won several awards for her photography and recently took first place with a painting at the newly established Art Walk sponsored by GAAG.
A collection of her art is on display at the Record & Clarion office for the month of June. For the month of July, she will hang her art at Dr. Trombley’s office and in August, she will move her art to the MyMichigan Health Urgent Care.
“I am drawn to abstract art in all forms. Photography, painting, 3D and drawings all bring out different emotional responses,” Perkins said. “To me, abstract allows the viewer to determine what they see, what makes them happy.”
