GLADWIN – Members of the Gladwin Area Artist Guild provide some supplies at no charge to both Gladwin County high school Art Departments every year. This year has seen many changes as to how the schools and the guild operate, but this sharing to support young artists in our community happened as usual.
A total of $300 worth of canvases and graphic marker sets were split equally between Gladwin and Beaverton High Schools. Guild Treasurer, Jan Berg Rezmer shopped area sales to get as much as she could for the students, and then delivered the art supplies to the schools in October.
“It was absolutely perfect timing, too, as we just ran out of canvas! Thank you so much for your graciousness to our program,” stated Amber Billman, G.H.S. Art Dept. Head, in a post sent to the Guild’s Facebook page at Gladwin Area Artist Guild.
Although monthly meetings and events for Artist Guild members were suspended for the remainder of this year, the organization plans to come back strong in the spring of 2021. The guild, in partnership with the De Shano family, offers an annual scholarship to graduating seniors at both county high schools. If considering a future in any art-related profession, students should plan to apply beginning March of 2021 through their school’s counselor.
“While most guild members are staying busy in their home studios during this nasty pandemic, I know they would rather be experiencing the camaraderie we had at community workshops, guild meetings and fun, kids’ events,” stated guild Vice President, Linda Clark. “But, we’ll be back promoting art in Gladwin County real soon. We miss you all so much,” she added.
