GLADWIN COUNTY – Welcome to the start of summer 2019. I am sure if you traveled around in our community on Memorial weekend it was noticeably busy. To give you some kind of idea as to how busy, from 0600hrs Friday until 2400hrs Monday, Gladwin County Central Dispatch handled 491 calls. This volume of calls were both 911 and administrative, and they logged and sent resources 298 times during that same period of time in response to these calls. We do our very best to keep up with the demand for service, but we realize there are occasionally delays and your Sheriff’s Office deputies appreciate your patience.
You have probably noticed that its road construction season all over Michigan by now. Please take the time and safety measures necessary as you travel and respect the workers. Their safety is very important and in many cases they make our normally traveled areas better at the completion of their work. Having said that, leave in plenty of time to reach your destination safely and obey the stop/slow personnel at each end of the construction zone.
Two other quick points I would like you to be aware of: the amount of pocket dials we get from cell phones have nearly tripled since last year. You should be aware that even if you have your phone password protected prior to use. You can still call 911 before entering the passcode. We’ve heard people checking out at the grocery store, going for walks and a variety of other things. In addition just because you have a new phone don’t give the old one to a child as a toy. Even if the plan is discontinued, as long as there is some kind of a battery still good in the old phone it can call 911. Lastly, people have asked countless times if the tinted window law is no longer in effect, because they have seen a lot of vehicles with tint. The short answer is that it is still illegal to have tint. The Michigan Motor Vehicle Code #257.709 will spell it right out.
Have a safe and enjoyable summer!
