BEAVERTON Beaverton Mayor Ray Nau has invited the community to join him and the Beaverton City Manager, Shannon Sirpilla, in the city’s annual flower planting. Flowers will be planted around the city in large flowerpots and in the ground in some areas.

GLADWIN The Council on Aging and the Michigan State University Extension office are coming together for Senior Project FRESH, which provides $25 in coupons to those that are eligible to spend on regional fruits, vegetables, herbs, and honey at participating farmers markets and roadside stands. To be eligible for the Senior Project Fresh, you must be a County residents 60 years or older or 55 years and older who are a member of a federally recognized Michigan tribe or urban tribal group with a household income level of 185 percent of poverty or less; Household of one with an annual income less than $27,861 or household of two with an annual income less than $37,814.

MyMichigan Medical Centers receive updated patient safety grades

MIDLAND MyMichigan Medical Centers recently received updated safety grades from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization committed to health care safety. The Safety Grade is a letter grade assigned to eligible general hospitals across the country and updated every six months, in the fall and again in the spring.

Rally, pinwheels bring awareness to child abuse prevention at State Capital

LANSING Spinning blue and silver pinwheels marked the path to the State Capitol as Children Trust Michigan held the 16th annual Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Day Rally. About 250 people attended, planting the pinwheels in the ground following a ceremony where speakers talked about how communities around Michigan can prevent child abuse.

Federal funding announced for lead pipe replacement across Michigan

United States Senators Gary Peters (MI) and Debbie Stabenow (MI) announced that Michigan will receive more than $61 million from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to help Michigan communities identify and replace the estimated 203,670 lead service lines that are in use across the state.
