G’s fall in 4th to Pioneers

GLADWIN – The Flying G’s lost to the visiting Clare Pioneers 27-21 in varsity football action Friday night, dropping Gladwin’s record to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in Jack Pine Conference play. The G’s led the first quarter 14-7 and held a 14-13 lead into halftime. They continued with a 21-19 lead into the fourth quarter when the Pioneers scored eight points with no comeback from Gladwin. Leading the G’s statistically was Landon Grove, who was 11-24 passing for 194 yards and one touchdown. Demetri Trice had eight receptions for 154 yards and a touchdown, and Brandon Wackerle led Gladwin in rushing with 39 yards. Lucas Schwager had a 4-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Trice added a 76-yard touchdown reception from Grove later in the first quarter. Trice finished the scoring for Gladwin with a 6-yard run in the third quarter, and Hayden Scott was 3-3 on extra points in the game. The Gladwin varsity is scheduled to host the Roscommon Bucks Friday starting at 7 p.m.
