GLADWIN – Extreme heat is adding to already difficult conditions firefighters face in the line of duty as Gladwin Rural-Urban Fire Department is currently working to battle a blaze at Antler and 2nd Streets in the City of Gladwin.
The fire was reported as heavy smoke coming through a window at the residence around 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.
Firefighters requested mutual aid in the form of manpower from Beaverton, Butman, Secord and Harrison area fire departments, and firefighters have been dispatched to the scene.
When the heat index is this high, firefighters follow a strict protocol to make sure that individual firefighters’ time spent battling the blaze is limited to avoid heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
In addition to the extra manpower, Gladwin County Sheriff Department and Gladwin City Police, as well as Gladwin EMS, were also on-scene.
