GLADWIN COUNTY – At least one person remains in critical condition following an accident last week. At approximately 4:10 p.m. Wednesday, Gladwin County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of M-18 and Howard Rd. in Grout Twp. for a report of a multiple-car accident with injuries.
According to witnesses, a gray minivan driven by a 70-year-old male from Beaverton, traveling north on M-18, attempted to make a left turn onto Howard Rd.
The minivan turned in front of a red minivan that was southbound on M-18, causing a head-on collision. The driver of the red minivan was a 53-year-old female from Beaverton.
A third vehicle, also southbound, struck the rear of the gray mini van.
The driver of the red minivan was airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw and, at press time, was in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the gray minivan was transported to MidMichigan Medical Center-Gladwin ER and later transferred to Mid Michigan Medical Center-Midland for further treatment.
The driver of the third vehicle was also taken to the Gladwin ER and was treated for injuries sustained in the accident.
The names of the individuals involved in the accident are not being released, as the accident is still under investigation.
Deputies were assisted on the scene by Gladwin City Police, Beaverton City Police, Michigan State Police, Gladwin EMS, Gladwin and Beaverton Fire Departments and Flight Care. Also, the Gladwin County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all the unnamed citizens who stopped and assisted at the scene.
