GLADWIN – On March 16, Troopers from the West Branch Post were dispatched to M-61, approximately four miles west of the city of Gladwin for a two-vehicle traffic crash which resulted in the death of one of the drivers. At approximately 7:25 a.m., a 1999 Ford Taurus was travelling eastbound on M-61. The Ford Taurus lost control on the snow-covered roads and slid across the center line into oncoming traffic. A 2012 Peterbilt box truck was travelling westbound and struck the Ford Taurus in the driver’s side door. The driver of the Ford Taurus, Ron Maxson, 37, of Harrison, was killed instantly. The driver of the truck was identified as a 23-year-old White Cloud resident. He sustained very minor injuries and was released at the scene.There were no other passengers in the Ford Taurus. The Michigan State Police West Branch Post was assisted by the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division; Gladwin City Police Department; Gladwin County Sheriff Department; Gladwin EMS; Gladwin Rural- Urban Fire Department; and the Gladwin County Road Commission.
