GLADWIN COUNTY – Gladwin County Board of Commissioners will see some changes early in 2014, most notably the absence of Board Chair Josh Reid.
Reid has resigned effective upon the appointment of a new District 4 Commissioner by the current board.
Reid has accepted a position as the Director of Gladwin City County Transit.
Reid said that he has appreciated his time as a commissioner, and expects to remain an active part of Gladwin County.
“I am passionate about this community,” he said, noting that he looked forward to the new position as City County Transit Director.
Reid began the new job on Monday, Jan. 6.
Executive Director of the Gladwin Housing Commission, Lauren Essenmacher, looked forward to the transition.
“I think he will be a wonderful addition,” Essenmacher commented. “He knows a lot about the community and what we do. We’re very excited to have him.”
At the organizational meeting on Jan. 2, Terry Whittington (District 3) was named Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, and Terry Walters (District 2) was named Vice Chair.
Whittington said that letters have been sent to the townships in Reid’s district and that it is expected that an appointee may be voted in at the Jan. 14 meeting.
“We sent letters out to all the townships asking if they had any recommendations, and if they do, we will probably make that appointment on Tuesday,” said Whittington.
He added that Reid will be missed.
“We got along very well. We had our disagreements at times, but Josh is a smart young man,” Whittington said. “I wish him all the luck in the world, and I really do think he will do good whatever he does. He has a good head on his shoulders.”
