Gladwin County winner earns second place in VFW District 11 Patriot Pen Essay contest

GLADWIN – On Jan. 18, VFW 7303 Auxiliary Senior Vice President and Patriot Pen chairmen went to Skeels Christian School to present awards to the students that participated in the Patriot Pen Essay contest. Each student received a citation and 13 were given out. Mrs. Owens, the 7th and 8th grade teacher received an appreciation citation this year. Awards were given to Hannah Sancrant, 1st place; Jonathan Letourneau, 2nd place and a 3rd place tie between Kailee Doak and Kenzee Wolf-Gillman. Hannah’s essay was sent to District 11 for competition. On Jan. 5 Gladwin County 7303 1st place Patriot Pen student Hannah Sancrant went to the VFW District 11 Voice of Democracy/Patriot Pen banquet that was held at the Standish VFW Post. Hannah was very surprised when she was awarded 2nd place in District 11 for her Patriot Pen essay. There she received a medallion, citation and an eagle trophy with her award. Those attending were Auxiliary President, Viola Tennison; Senior Vice President and Patriot Pen Chairman, Josephine Miller; Secretary, Virginia Young and Treasurer Elsie Henry. Congratulations Hannah, we are all very proud of you.
