GLADWIN – The Seltz family and friends gathered for its 32 biennial reunion on Aug. 10 at the Secord Township Hall. About 85 descendants of Oscar and Elizabeth Seltz shared a potluck meal and stories within sight of the old family farm on Three Rivers Road in Secord Township, Gladwin County. Oscar Seltz moved to Gladwin County in 1913, married Elizabeth Ensign, and raised a family of 12 children who were very active in the schools, sports, and community.

Representing the first generation of Seltz’ born in the area were Charlotte Sutherland, wife of Vern Seltz, Wilbur and Roger Seltz, and Clara Carvey, and 20 of their children and grandchildren. Still living, but unable to attend was Laura Smith Wrazen. Also present were descendants of Clarence, Ella Vallender, Virgie Fial, Bertha Raymond and Elmer. Families of Dottie Delair and Wanda Cornell were not able to attend, but were there in spirit. Visitors travelled from as far as Texas, Maine and Costa Rica to visit.

Still living in Gladwin County are Seltz descendants – Lois Arends, Joyce Broka, Caroline Peterson, Keith Seltz and Alex and Monica Vallender. The next Seltz Family Reunion is planned for Aug. 9, 2015.
