GLADWIN – The Quiz Bowl teams represented Gladwin well on Saturday at Roscommon High School at the 2nd meet of the season. The varsity team consisting of Brandon Wright, Ellen Loubert, Michaela Brown, and Lucas Peters were in 3rd place going into the final round against two Meridian teams. After an extremely close final round, they were able to defeat one of the Meridian teams to finish in 2nd place with a score of 150 points to a Meridian 185. The other varsity team represented by Ashley Blackburn, Katie Loesel, and Dallas Gibson finished in 6th place out of 10 teams. Top scorers for the varsity teams were Brandon Wright with 140 points, Dallas Gibson with 110 points, Lucas Peters with 80 points, and Micheala Brown with 70. The two JV teams improved their overall scores by over 100 points from the Farwell meet. Top scorers for JV were Stephanie Pepe with 100 points, Jenny Hill with 50 points, and Rachel Sansom with 40. This is the team’s second win of the season after placing first in the Farwell meet in December where after three rounds of competition, the varsity team consisting of Brandon Wright, Dallas Gibson, and Michaela Brown were in 2nd place out of 10 teams. They then went on to the final round against Farwell and Meridian. They were able to pull off a 1st place victory leading Meridian by 40 points. Top scorer for the team was Brandon with 200 points. The other varsity team consisting of Andrew Teal, Ashley Blackburn, Katie Loesel, and Cayla Wilbur finished in 4th place out of 10 teams. Top scorer for the team was Andrew Teal with 90 points. The two JV teams consisted of all new players to Quiz Bowl. They also played well for their first meet. High scorers were Stephanie Pepe with 100 points, Ashley Falls with 80, Isaac Morgan with 70, and Rachel Sansom with 50. The next meet will be March 23 at Gladwin High School.
