A Northern Tradition raises over $75,000

HARRISON Over 550 people attended the 20th annual A Northern Tradition, Mid Michigan College’s annual fundraiser, which took place recently at Jay’s Sporting Goods in Clare. The event raised over $75,000 to support the College’s services to students and the community.

Lions donate handicap swing to City of Beaverton

BEAVERTON The Beaverton Lions Club recently donated a swing set chair to the City of Beaverton. The new swing will allow those with an inability to utilize a regular swing, or small children to enjoy playground equipment in Ross Lake Park.

GLADWIN COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT WELCOMES TWO NEW DEPUTIES

The Gladwin County Sheriff’s Department welcomed two new members, Deputy Kristopher English and Deputy Andrew Cole. Both officers graduated from the Kirtland Regional Police Academy in Grayling, Michigan. Deputy English and Deputy Cole were selected and sponsored by the Gladwin Sheriff’s Office to attend the academy thanks to a grant provided by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES). The grant reimbursed the cost of the academy, wages, and benefits while they were attending the academy. English and Cole will immediately fill two open vacancies at the Sheriff’s Office. The Gladwin County Sheriff’s Department is excited to add Deputy English and Deputy Cole to their team.

MVAA DIRECTOR LOVE HONORED WITH MILITARY SALUTE AT COMERICA PARK

On Wednesday, May 1, MVAA Director Brian L. Love was honored on the field by the Detroit Tigers as their Military Salute of the Game. Love was escorted onto the field in the middle of the fourth inning and presented an authentic personalised Tigers jersey and highlighted on the jumbotron. Topping off the day, the Tigers beat the St. Louis Cardinals.

Westland man pleads no contest to sending threatening emails to Governor

LANSING Last week in the 18th District Court in Wayne County, Jason Tolonen, 51, of Westland, pled no contest to one count of Using a Computer to Commit a Crime and one count of Malicious Use of a Telecommunications Service, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. For years, Tolonen repeatedly sent nonsensical, harassing, racist, and threatening emails to Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s constituent portal.
