GLADWIN The Council on Aging and the Michigan State University Extension office are coming together for Senior Project FRESH, which provides $25 in coupons to those that are eligible to spend on regional fruits, vegetables, herbs, and honey at participating farmers markets and roadside stands. To be eligible for the Senior Project Fresh, you must be a County residents 60 years or older or 55 years and older who are a member of a federally recognized Michigan tribe or urban tribal group with a household income level of 185 percent of poverty or less; Household of one with an annual income less than $27,861 or household of two with an annual income less than $37,814.

Strawberry Filling: 2 ½ cups frozen strawberries 4 ½ tsp white sugar 1 ½ tsp freshly squeezed lime juice Cake: 3 cups all-purpose flour ½ tsp baking soda ½ tsp baking powder ½ tsp salt 1 ½ cups white sugar 1 cup unsalted butter, softened 6 large eggs, at room temperature ¼ cup freshly squeezed lime juice 2 tbsp lime zest 1 tsp vanilla extract 1 cup whole-milk plain Greek yogurt, at room temperature 1/3 cup finely chopped mint leaves Place strawberries, sugar, and lime juice for filling in a nonreactive pot over medium heat and bring to a boil.

Local students celebrated with Turnaround Achievement Awards

CLARE The Clare-Gladwin Area School Board Association honored 21 local high school students at the 19th Annual TurnAround Achievement Awards Ceremony for overcoming obstacles in their academic and personal life. This year’s recipients from Beaverton, Clare, Farwell, Gladwin and Harrison, as well as Bullock Creek, Coleman and Meridian, were nominated by their local teachers and administrators for demonstrating the most effort, perseverance and commitment to turning their lives around.

Free Supper Club event slated

CoA Monthly Caregiver Support meetings

GLADWIN COUNTY Council On Aging (COA) Monthly Caregiver Support Group meetings will be held the third Wednesday of every month, 1:30 p.m., at the Antler Arms High Rise Building. The 2024 Schedule is: ■ June 19 ■ July 18 ■ August 21 ■ September 18 ■ October 16 ■ November 20 ■ December 18 This confidential support group is for caregivers taking care of a loved one, age 60 or over.

Beaverton student receives Academic Excellence Award

Shelterhouse hosts ribbon cutting to celebrate new service

GLADWIN COUNTY E arlier this year, Shelterhouse of Midland and Gladwin Counties opened a brand-new sexual assault medical examination room in their Gladwin office, creating access to free and confidential medical care for survivors of sexual assault throughout the region. A ribbon-cutting event will be hosted at 5 p.m.
